This paper probes into the land issues in the northeast regions of Botswana. On the basis of its historic origin and the land reform implemented after Botswana’s independence, it analyses the process of land reform in Botswana with the cases of land reform in South Africa and Zimbabwe in recent years.Through the colonial period, colonialism and racialism had left a great effect on Botswana. The land issue in the northeast regions of Botswana is a big problem after its independence. As a key point to economic development and politics, the land issue will affect social stability and economic growth, which can bring bad influence if dealt improperly. However, the mild land reform policy, which carried out after Botswana’s independence on the basis of market, had not been exerted effectively. It did not ease the problem of land shortage appeared in the northeast regions, and most residents there could not make their lives with enough lands. Meanwhile, overgrazing caused by land shortage has accelerated the soil degradation, which brings about a series of environmental problems, which in turn intensified the situation of land in the northeast regions. All-sided land reform is extremely urgent.
