Zhu Kezhen (1890-1974) was a prominent Chinese scientist and educator, whowas also a famous modern geologist and meteorologist. He is the founder of modernChinese geography. Zhu Kezhen used to be a scientist of communism. Theobservation seems to be true if we just judge from the result. But the human’sthought always changes in different situations and times. It may even be a contractaccording to the circumstances.Throughout Zhu Kezhen’s whole life, he has experienced the late Qing Dynasty, the Republic of China, the Peoples Republic of China. As a scholar who had athorough knowledge of both western and Chinese learning, Zhu Kezhen finallydecided to stay in Chinese Mainland during the regime transition. He also changedfrom a scholar who believes in freedom and democracy into a scientist who believesin communism. But the process of it is ignored or even hided. In Republic Period, Zhu Kezhen was highly placed in Kuomintang Power and hadtight relationship with other elevated people. During that period, there were severalstudent strikes in Zhejiang University. Kuomintang finally lost the control of ChineseMainland. Zhu Kezhen chose to stay in Chinese Mainland instead of going to Taiwan.Abandoning Kuomintang Power and following the Communist Party doesn’tmean that those scholars such as Zhu Kezhen will totally believe in the communistparty and the Marxs ideological system. As a person who used to believe Westernconcept of freedom and democracy, it is not easy to change his thought in such ashort time. This paper is according to <Diary of Zhu Kezheng>,which included in the2004edition of the <Zhu Kezhengs complete works>,present the ideology and the valuesof Zhu Kezheng from the1940s to1960s,and discuss the changing of his idea by adynamical angle, then analysis the reason of this change. In this paper, the authorstrive to reconstructing the character of Zhu Kezheng.
