German classical aesthetics for the division of art classification, and regularity of which it was endowed with, is known to all, but it is absent to answer these questions: why Germany classical aestheticians put a high value on art classification? Why those aestheticians at the same time, from Kant and Schiller to Hegel, seem to disagree with others? What is their purpose? What’s relationship with their time? What’s meaning to modern art which is increasingly popular, commercial, and vulgar? The paper is stressed on these critical problems, not only to analyses the differences of idea of German classical aesthetes in art classification, but also the consistency, and to re-evaluate the principle of the art classification from the view of contemporary aesthetics, and to explore the anticipation and miscalculation of German classical aestheticians. On method, this paper adopts the principle which combining the historical whit the documents and the art-texts——regarding the enlightenment as the important historical background of German classical aesthetics; and discriminating the relationships between one esthetician with others, whose ideas induced mutually, as clue; and taking the response of modern aestheticians and art theorists to German classic aesthetic as a reference. Thought this, the paper found the claims for the art classification which were in one sense motivated by the demands of enlightenment liberalism. Art classification does not lose its meaning, Although the enlightenment was deconstructed.
