| Nowadays, the integration of the native and the foreign thought culture resources is the essential condition to re-write "Chinese image" under the trend of globalization. It is necessary to draw lessons from Chinese and Western culture resources in order to construct modern Chinese culture value system. Some worthwhile thoughts are re-returned to our visual fields such as Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought which created in the May 4th Movement of 1919 when we comb China resources. Zhang's esthetics thought is still one of the most important thought resources in construction of our modern spirit, even though it has been ignored for a long time. Therefore, the key point of the paper is to salvage the shining thought resources that lie in the historical riverbed, expound the realistic rationality and legitimacy of Zhang-Jingsheng's esthetics thought, give creative explanations and criticism, and explore its values. Not only does it analyze history seriously, but also it is an effort to connect history and contemporary era.This paper plans to examine Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought by using modernity theory concerned. The modernity that is referred in this paper is combined with the viewpoint of modernity's three levels that is discussed by Yang-chunshi, and is regarded as a kind of spirit that can push the development of modernization. Modernity includes two levels: perception and reason. However, the modernity of appreciation of beauty is the advanced level compared to the modernity of enlightenment. The methods that the paper uses are document method and comparison method as well as the theory of modernity to study Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought deeply, and to combine kinds of esthetics theory to be compared vertically and laterally, concluded and arranged. And in the historical and actual context this paper also evaluates the value and meaning of Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought to provide the meaningful references for the development of modern esthetics theory.This article is divided into 3 chapters.Chapterâ… : the basic structure of Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought. This chapter introduces the life and philosophy theory of Zhang-jingsheng, explains the main idea of his theory and analyses the character of his esthetics theory. The long life as an overseas student has a great effect on the form of Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought, which has connection with eastern and western life philosophy, especially Bergson's life philosophy. Zhang-jingsheng indicates esthetical philosophy, seeking esthetical social organization rules, and deeming the belief of love and beauty. He also emphasizes esthetics has close connection with life creativity, and declares to get the maximum effect by using the minimum strength. And his works of esthetical philosophy and esthetical social organization rules show the structure of life esthetical system and the characters of structure and system of his esthetics thought. At the same time, his esthetics thought includes all social life, emphasizes real principal practice and owns powerful sociality and practice. Furthermore, Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought also has dualism and inconsistency.Chapterâ…¡: the modernity of Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought. This chapter is the main part of this paper, which explains Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought by the theory of modernity, analyses the modernity of enlightenment, modernity of appreciation of beauty and disadvantages of modernity of his thought deeply, and shows the character of the modernity. The article introduces that Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought has dual content of modernity: modernity of enlightenment and modernity of appreciation of beauty through the meticulous analysis of his esthetics viewpoints. The two modernities form a kind of tension, the former makes Zhang-jingsheng affirm the individual perceptual liberation and the vivid state of life, calls for the individual real liberation and comfortable freedom of life, combines the spirit of scientific socialism and the principle of reason in his designations to life and society, represents his modernity thought combined with perception and reason entirely. The latter makes his esthetics thought have the meanings of metaphysics, pursues the ultimate value and lasting meaning of life, plans the ideal of society as Utopia, tries to promote daily life to the sense of beauty, makes beauty and love exist everywhere in society. Two kinds of tension of modernity make Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought have great creation and foresightedness, which are discussed in chapter three similarly. In the meantime, modernity characteristics of appreciation of beauty and the insufficient of modernity in Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought should cause our enough attentions; thus, we can make use of and draw lessons from this thought resources more reasonably.Chapterâ…¢: the modern significance of Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought. This chapter explains the modern significance of Zhang-jingsheng' esthetics through three aspects which include modern structure of esthetical education, the contemporary construction of esthetics, the spirit resources of promoting Chinese modernization. There are two points in Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought, which have a great meaning for today's esthetics. The first one is the idea of unity of life and esthetics. The second one is the construction and practice of Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought. Paying attention to problem consciousness makes Zhang-jingsheng's theory approach real life and the public, owns the character of "life esthetics", and develops the solid road of the connection between esthetics and social and life problem. The clinging human solicitude spirit and the persistent unity of world and nationality make Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought keep fresh energy. Sensibility liberation and rationalism existed in Zhang-jingsheng's esthetics thought are necessary spirit aspects for the structure of modernity. Owning reflection and criticism spirit of esthetical modernity has great referential meaning for our keeping the criticism of negative factors of modernity.
