On The Urban Writing Of Wang Anyi 's "Everlasting Regret"

As the representative works about Shanghai of Wang Anyi,Everlasting Regret not only won the Mao Dun prize for literature which is the highest award of novel in China,but also gained a good reputation among readers.Its writing style about Shanghai characteristics of urban caused widespread concerns of scholars. At the same time, it raised the Comparative study between Wang Anyi and the writers of Shanghai School Literature like Zhang Ailing,which plays an important role in the development of Shanghai School Literature in the new era. Consequently,this paper is trying to discuss the writing style of Shang Hai urban from two respects of content and form based on urban characteristics of Everlasting Regret. And on this basis,this paper will carry a longitudinal studies about similarity between Everlasting Regret and Shanghai School Literature.This paper consists of three parts.Firstly, analysing the way of depicting Shanghai of Wang Anyi based on Everlasting Regret’s narrative.In the Everlasting Regret,Wang Anyi focus on the alley that is a special building in Shanghai and reflect the trivial life of the typical citizen who live in the alley by the daily narration way.Secondly, based on the relationship between female and Shanghai,revealing the Wang Anyi unique viewpiont about the female and discussing the common features of female and Shanghai.As a representative woman of Shanghai, Wang Qiyao’s character also belongs to Shanghai and other females.These characters are:fashion, exotic; peacockish, shrewd; brave, independent.Thirdly, talking about the similarity between Everlasting Regret and Shanghai School Literature.As an informal school of literature,the Shanghai School Literature has experienced several different development stages.But there are many similarities on the writing way about urban characteristics,that’s why Wang Anyi is considered the writer of Shanghai School Literature in the new period.
