In1897, Germany wanted to build qingdao as its permanent colonies, makes the "juye event" as an excuse to occupies Jiaozhou Bay. In order to spread colonial rule and Christianity culture, many missionaries arrived Qingdao to develop missionary activities, such as Tongshan missionary, Bolin xinyi missionary and Shnegyan missionary. In addition to the direct sermon activities, missionary pay more attention to build schools and hospitals. Curriculums in missionary schools include moral, sports, art and scientific knowledge, Teaching content close to the social needs, vocational colleges pay attention to the combination of social employment, missionary also build the first girl school in qingdao, which has changed the customs and public opinions. From1898-1914missionary schools has played an important role in building modern education in qingdao and Shandong province. After1898, a large amount of floating population increasing, many people were lack of health concepts, frequent epidemics in the summer, for saving lives, the church opened several hospitals. Missionary hospitals in treating malaria, dysentery and typhoid disease, which greatly increased popular affection of missionaries. Missionary hospital brings new drugs and diagnostics for the people, bringing the western medical system and management methods for Qingdao, promoting the spread of western medicine in qingdao. Missionary schools and hospitals spread the western culture and concepts in some extent, promoteing the process of modernization of Shandong province. It is the tool of the colonial government cultural infiltration, but also can’t deny its positive influence on modern education and medicine to Qingdao, while discussing this problem, we should hold a dialectical analysis view. |
