Androgyny is also called hermaphrodite.In biology, it means plants combine double sex. This paper mainly discusses the androgynous chracteristics of psychology. Virginia Woolf is a feminist writer. In her novel "A Room of One’s Own", she presents an important literary view——"androgyny". She claims that a writer should contain both male and female qualities, and creat with androgynous literary creation. On the basis of the existing achievements at home and abroad, the paper focus on the androgynous characteristics in the art context and explores the profond aesthetic significance of it.Androgynous characteristics exit in ancient mythology. Modern psychology and philosophy achievements provide further basic theory. The paper analysis the androgynous images in both literature world and movie world, and finds the complex speciality of androgyny, as well as its special aesthetic meaning. From the aspect of aesthetics, androgyny is not an weird, a sick, or an abnormal phenomenon. At the edge of the art world, androgyny shows the collaborative beauty of androgynous gender, novel beauty of alternative form, and includes creative beauty of androgynous writer.
