“Mhod yon”relation has been translated to “giving offerings” in Chinese context. However, the way of cultural translation is problematic; at least it is appears different in thewords-formation. Tucci translated it to “the chaplain and the patron”, whilst the Chinese wordof “giving offerings” is a non-verb. In the Chinese tradition, monasteries are places for onlypractice religion, and people gain console by giving offerings. Basically, that is a reason ofChinese emperors had built monasteries and supported them. By contrast, in early India, therelationship between monks and their followers was that foods “donating and accepting”,because in the morning monks practice religion in monasteries, while in the afternoon theywould go to “bsod-snyoms” in the neighboring cities. In this thesis I will argue that “mchod yon” relationship is not only “giving offerings” inTibetan society, and it is also incorrect to translate and understand as “giving offerings”. Onthe other hand,“mchod yon” relationship is a religio-politics、economics、social system. Inaddition, it is a local term with which people understand ethnic relationships that placed intheir won world order. In end,“mchod yon” is not only reciprocal relationship on the level ofindividual, but also it is a dialectical relationship in social system where relying exist inconflicting and conflicting exist in relying. Therefore, without any doubt that D. SeyfortRuegg wrong to conclude that “mchod yon” relationship is political practice of Buddhistvalues. In fact, I rather say it is a social system of Buddhism value combined with Tibetanindigenous social features.
