Taking the pipa solo <<Point>> as study object, this thesis analyzes thecharacteristics of production, materials of music, structure of form, techniques,rhythm and musical presentation of this piece.<<Point>> is a contemporary pipa solo creation of Chen Yi, Chinese composerliving in the U.S.A, and constitutes one of her magnum opuses. Combining herunderstanding of Chinese traditional culture and western contemporary techniques ofcomposition, the composer introduced innovation in creation approaches andestablished her own style. This thesis is divided into two parts. The first part brieflypresents <<Point>> and the current study on it, analyzing the piece through itscharacteristics of production, materials of music and structure of form. The secondpart concentrates on the interpretation and musical presentation of <<Point>> bylooking into several aspects such as musical performance, Tantiao and Changlun andparticular factors of acoustics and rhythm. The thesis tries to, in position of executant,analyze different aspects of the piece thoroughly and in details, and make somesuggestions for performers of <<Point>>. |
