Non-contact vital signs monitoring system is a blend of biomedical engineering, radar, electronic and computer technology, and it is an important try to apply the modern radar technology into biomedical.The system doesn’t need any electrode or sensors in contact with human body, it can penetrate non-metallic medium (such as clothes, debris, etc.), the system is able to detect human’s vital signs in from far distance detection and at the same time protect the participant from physical discomfort caused by contact or secondary damage.The system can be used in patients of infectious diseases, clinical monitoring of critically ill patients, it can also be used in monitoring the infant found that the disease.This paper introduces in detail the existing principle of ultra-wideband radar, expounds the advantages of ultra-wideband radar compared with the traditional continuous wave radar, detailed introduces the system architecture, signal model and signal processing method of ultra-wideband radar vital-sign monitoring system.This paper mainly do the research related to the signal processing method of non-contact monitoring vital signs used ultra-wideband radar system, after analysis we know that it’s difficult to distinguish between four times the harmonic of heart rate and breathing rate when we use Fourier transform to calculate breathing rate and heart rate. Because of the deficiency of the traditional Fourier transform in signal processing, the MUSIC algorithm and Root MUSIC algorithmis proposed in this paper, these two spectrum estimation algorithms are applied into the application of the system, we validate these algorithms and expound their resolution accuracy. efficiency after we analyse the experimental data.The end of the article is this system’s hardware design and implementation, it also has written the software programs of the MUSIC algorithms and MUSIC algorithms. Eventually, the debugging and realization of MUSIC algorithms and MUSIC algorithms is based on DSP chip TMS320C6678. The result shows that the algorithm is effective and feasible in dealing with the breathing and heartbeat signal in DSP system.
