Chloranthaceae, members of Magnoliidae, distributed mainly in tropical and subtropical areas, contains five genus, comprising seventy species in the world. Three genus, about seventeen species were found in China. The main chemical components of this plant are a variety of structurally interesting sesquiterpenoids, sesquiterpenoid dimmers. Our group recent study showed that lindenane disesquiterpenoids isolated from the family exhibited anti-HIV activity and shizukaol F was a new structural type HIV-1 RNase H inhibitor.In order to further obtain diversity diterpenoids and research develompent of species in Chloranthaceae, we had investigated the chemical constituents and biological activities of two plants in Chloranthus—Chloranthus holostegius and Sarcandra glabra. By various separation and purification techniques(TLC, PTLC,CC, Sephadex LH-20, semi-prep. HPLC, and prep. HPLC), 47 compounds were obtained from the two plants and elucidated on the spectroscopic analysis(IR, UV,MS, NMR, etc.). Among of them, including twelve diterpenoids and twenty six lindenane sequiterpenoid dimers, seven compounds are new.In the current study of C. holostegius, twenty-five compounds were isolated from an ethanol extract of this whole plant. They were elucidated as 4β,5α-dihydroxy-10(β)H-8,12-epoxygermacra-7,11-diene-9-one(1), Spiro[4.5]dec-6-ene-8α,9β,15α-triol,4β-methyl-1α-isopropyl(2), Spiro[4.5],8-desmethylacor-6,9-dien-8-one-3α-ol(4), Chlorahololide G(5), Chlorahololide B(6), Chloramultiol D(7),Chlorahololide F(8), Sarcandrolide D(9), Cycloshizukaol A(10), Spicachlorantin C(11), Henriol C(12), Shizukaol C(13), Chlorahololide D(14), Shizukaol F(15),Chloramultiol C(16), Chlorajaponilide D(17), Tianmushanol(18), Yinxiancaol(19),Chloramultilide B(20),(7R,9 S,10 R)-3,9-di-hidroxicalameneno(21),1β,8 β-Di hy dr ox ye u de s ma n-3,7(11)-di e n-8 α,12-ol id e(22), 4(1 5)-Eudesmene-1β, 7α,11-triol(23), 4-Hydroxybenzoic acid(24), trans-4-Hydroxy-2-nonenoic acid(25)。In the current study of S. glabra, twenty-two compounds were isolated from an ethanol extract of this whole plant. They were elucidated as Glabarolide 1(1),Glabarolide 2(2), Sarglabolide C(3), Sarcandrolide H(4), Sarcandrolide E(5),Shizukaol C(6), Chloramultiol C(7), Sarcandrolide D(8), Sarcandrolide B(9),Sarglabolide D(10),1β,11-Dihydroxy-5-eudesmene(11), Chlorajapolide D(12),Shizukanolide E(13)[, 4β, 7α-Dihydroxyaromadendrane(14), Neolitacumone A(15),Fraxetin(16), Isofraxidine(17),(+)-Syringaresinol(18), methyl rosmarinate(19),methyl-6-dehydroxyl rosmarinate(20), 7-hydoxy-5, 8-dimethoxyflavanone(21),Isoferulaldehyde(22)。In addition, the research progress on the chemical constituents and biological activities of the genus Sarcandra were sammarized.
