Research purposeZhou Xiaonong collected six books written by the famous doctor Wang Xugao with the same city in the period of the Republic of China and submitted them to the Shanghai Qianqingtang Publishing House for publication after sorting and collation, one of which is Night Talk Records ofXixi Bookstore (also known as Thirty Methods for Treating Liver). Zhou praised highly of Thirty Methods for Treating Liver and wrote in the postscript that:"methods for treating liver of night talk records are very effective when putting into practice, thus being regarded as proficient in conditioning liver disease."It can be seen that the reason whyhis is proficient in diagnosis and treatment of liver disease is that obviously Thirty Methods for Treating Liver has great effect on him. However, at present there is no relevant research data to explain this problem about how Zhou is subjected to the effects of the Thirty Methods for Treating Liver and whether he has unique insights and development for treatment thought of liver diseases based on this book. Therefore, based on this, the research is carried out in the paper so as to strive to make a thorough study of this issue.Research methodIn this paper, based on the literature research method, relevant information is widely collected to carry out the research; the thought of liver-qi, liver wind and the liver-fire in Thirty Methods for Treating Liver and the effect on Zhou Xiaonong are regarded as the research core. Among them, method of soothing the liver and regulating qi, method of shugan tongluo, emolliate, method of slowing liver, method of peitu xiemu, method of discharge the liver and harmonizing stomach, method of discharging the liver, method of reducing liver and method of sangan are selected for liver-qi disease; method of quenching wind to suppressing Yang, erth-supplementing and wind-calming method, nourish method, method of warming the soil to keep out the cold wind are selected for liver wind disease; 20 methods including clear away method, purge method, method of qingjin zhimu, child-draining method, huagan method are selected for liver-fire disease. It should be noted in particular that Wang Xugao does not include the method of sangan in the part of treatment of liver qi in the original book of Thirty Methods for Treating Liver; however, it is included in the part of treatment of hepatic asthenia but the author thinks that contrastive study can be carried out between method of sangan and the liver In addition, only Xifen Yin Xuan Medical Records among the works written by Zhou (it is sorted as Zhou Xiaonong Medical Records by the descendants) can represent the academic thought. By not only starting from Zhou Xiaonong Medical Records in the paper and carrying out careful analysis based on the medical records, making system arrangement of the influence on Zhou of Thirty Methods for Treating Liver and the unique development, journal articles published by Zhou in the period of the Republic of China are also collected; the classifying and ordering are carried out for research. It is expected to have a comprehensive understanding of Zhou’s academic thought.Research resultThree research results have been completed in the paper:firstly, compile Zhou Xiaonong chronicle to achieve the purpose of general understanding of his academic origin, medical activities, and academic achievement; the influence of formation of his later academic characteristics caused by Zhou’s upbringing, environment, learning process and other factors are discussed in the summary part; secondly, the essence of Zhou Xiaonong’s journal articles during the period of Republic of China is sorted out; by visiting the National Library, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine Library and Library of the Chinese Academy of traditional Chinese Medicine, more than 120 articles of Zhou’s journal articles during the period of Republic of China are sorted out so as to have a more comprehensive understanding of its academic ideas and characteristics, of which the articles with greater influence or unique academic insights are selected in the form of summarization. Thirdly, a systematic study of 20 treatments thought for liver-qi, liver wind and the liver-fire in Thirty Methods for Treating Liver is carried out and its influence on Zhou Xiaonong is expounded in the form of medical records. First of all, the author expounds the clinical meaning of each method. Secondly, through the interpretation of the original text, the clinical thinking of Wang Xugao setting up the method and experience of drug selection are restored; put forward different opinions from other scholars for this from time to time. Thirdly, in the form of medical records, Zhou Xiaonong’s medical records are analyzed to find out the way of his inheriting the treatment thought of the method. Finally in the conclusion part, his experience of using this method and whether he had integrated into his own ideas and made development are summarized.The author expects to make Zhou Xiaonong’s academic experience further studied and sorted out through this work so as to achieve the aim of enriching the academic content of traditional Chinese medicine.
