Research Background:Professor Tian Suqin is a nationally well-known veteran doctor of traditional Chinese medicine and a specialist who enjoys State Council Special Allowance. She is now Professor and Academic Leader at the Dermatological Department of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In her early years, she was taught by Wang Pinshan, a famous doctor of traditional Chinese medicine in Northeastern China. She has spent about 50 years on medicine, teaching and research and has accumulated rich clinical experience and unique academic vision. She is good at diagnosing and treating different kinds of skin diseases, especially common diseases and stubborn diseases including psoriasis, leucoderma, eczema, urticaria and pruritus cutanea. A unique diagnosing and treating system of traditional Chinese medicine characters has been formed by her in the field of traditional Chinese medicine dermatology and has prominent clinical curative effects.Purpose:To summarize the clinical experience of Professor Tian Suqin on diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis vulgaris by blood.Method:Through clinical observation, collecting medical case records and consulting literature review, this paper explains Professor Tian Suqin’s understanding on the etiology and pathogenesis of psoriasis vulgaris as well as syndrome differentiation and treatment in Chinese medicine. It summarizes Professor Tian Suqin’s herbal prescription which is featured by diagnosis and treatment by blood and her treatment of both physical and psychological stress at the same time which combines a series of treatments focusing on recuperation of diet and mentality. It then further discusses the academic features of Professor Tian Suqin’s diagnosis and treatment of psoriasis vulgaris by blood as well as its importance to clinical treatment.Results:Combining theory of traditional Chinese medicine, Professor Tian Suqin has her own understanding and has conducted in-depth research on the etiology and pathogenesis of psoriasis vulgaris and treatment based on syndrome differentiation. During clinical practices, she pays attention to both internal and external pathogenesis, pathological factors including damp, phlegm and stagnation and pathogenesis such as blood-heat, dryness in blood,, blood-insufficiency, blood stasis and blood-coldness as well as their influence on viscera functions of the patients. And she then comes up with five classifications of syndromes including internal blood-heat, wind formation from blood dryness, wind-dryness from blood-insufficiency, energy and blood stasis and energy-defiency and blood-coldness. She advocates the treatment theory featured by diagnosis and treatment by blood and treatment of taking orally decoction of Baibitang and Quyintang which can clear heat and remove toxicity and using drugs for external use such as psoriasis lotion and unguent. She comes up with the treatment of both physical symptoms and psychological distress. Through paying attention to daily care and recuperation of mentality, the patient can get systematic and effective treatment.Conclusion:Professor Tian Suqin summarized a series of treatment which stresses on holism of traditional Chinese medicine. Combining the etiology and pathogenesis and clinical symptoms as well as different stages and types, she comes up with effective treatment plans featured by diagnosis and treatment by blood, treatment of both physical symptoms and psychological distress and treatment combining paying attention to daily care and psychological counseling, which provide reference and guidance for the clinical treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.
