WLAN, Wireless Local Area Network, it will realize the computer network with wireless equipment, and it is a technology to make sure communications each other. It appeared in 1990, and its characteristics are convenience, economy, easy and practicality, so its development is very fast. But, because of the early WLAN have a lot of shortages in security and transmit quality, so the users of WLAN don't deploy it bravely. This makes WLAN not to develop faster within one period. So these ask us to excogitate a suit of protocols that have much more security and transmit quality, so the IEEE 802.11x protocols develop strengthen step by step, from then on WLAN's development is very fast. We take building the whole WLAN of the Harbin University of Medicine and its inferior units (Zhong Long Medicine Bloc, Hospital of Harbin University of Medicine, Health and Epidemic Prevention Station of the City, Harbin Pharmacy Factory) as our request. And after we analyzed the factual instance and many other factors, we designed a WLAN structure mode that can be popularized. Certainly, after we set up the WLAN, we also thought over the problem that ensure network security and transmit quality, and we solved these problems goodly. At last, we confirmed the final design scheme that used WEP arithmetic to ensure network security. It indicated by practicing and testing that we adopted wireless equipment base on IEEE 802.11a protocol to our hardware equipments for this task was right. With the WEP arithmetic and effective managing mechanism in WLAN, we solved the request of Harbin university of medicine and its inferior units satisfactorily, and we assured their network's bandwidth and security.
