Along with the development of the digital imaging technology in medicine, the diagnosis of the medical image is more and more important in modern medical activities. And there is a great progress in the computer technology, storage medium and network technology in recent years, as well as the establishment of the standard DICOM 3.0(Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine). Thereby, the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication Systems) is eventually produced and begins to develop. The development of PACS has started long time ago in foreign countries. And it has gradually tended to be mature. However, it only begins to study the PACS in China. And the exploratory and study is just the elementary stage yet. Nevertheless, the domestic hospitals demand the PACS very much, and the cost of using a foreign PACS is very high. That asks the research of the PACS to be faster. The realization and research of this paper is spread out under this kind of background. The research purpose of this paper is to satisfy social needs, break foreign technical monopoly, study the PACS, realize the partial PACS in radiation department and develop the medical image diagnosis working station system of a complete PACS. This paper introduces the PACS, studies the standard DICOM 3.0, analyses the format of a DICOM file and realizes the medical image diagnosis working station system. The major content of this paper is as follows: 1. Introduction. This part introduces the PACS and points out the research contents and the purpose of this paper. We have known the PACS, have acquainted the present developing situation of the PACS, have grasped the configuration and executable measure of the PACS and have made clear the goal of the research and development of this paper through the statement of this part. 2. The research and analysis of the standard DICOM 3.0. The standard DICOM 3.0 is the basis to establish and realize the PACS. It explains the origin and intending development direction of the standard DICOM 3.0 in this part. It points out that the most important characteristic of the standard DICOM 3.0 is its extensibility and compatibility. And it studies the major components of the standard DICOM 3.0 in this part. The emphasis is put upon the information object definition (IOD) and data structure and encoding.
