The Research Of The Interworking Between SIP Protocol And H.323 Protocol

With the development of information and network technology , Internet has entered the ordinary families, people have already been no longer satisfied with simple net surfing to get information , but need two-way interactive service, then VoIP technology has came into being. Due to its advantages such as low cost, flexible services, etc, IP phone is becoming one of the most rapidly developing technologies in the world.Two major technical standard exist in the field of VoIP at present, one is ITU-T recommendation H.323 and the other is the SIP proposed by IETF. H.323 is put forward earlier than SIP and now is used widely. However, due to the merits such as flexibility , expansibility of the SIP, the terminal equipment based on SIP has occupied more and more markets. Although H.323 protocol and SIP protocol can set up IP phone network, the way they used are different and they can not be compatible each other. So research in the field of interworking between H.323 protocol and SIP protocol is a significative subject.At first , the paper analyse the H.323 protocol stack and SIP protocol stack, introduce the structure of the stack and the call process in detail, compare the characteristic of H.323 protocol with SIP protocol.
