As the rapid development of power electronic technology, non-linear loads bring the serious harmonic contamination. In order to improve the supply network quality, many kinds of compensators have been developed. One of the effective ways to solve such kind of problems is using filters. Passive Power Filter (PF) is always applied in the high voltage and large capacity conditions. The principle is LC resonance. Not only can be used for harmonic filtering, PF also can work for reactive power compensation. However, except the advantage of lower early investment and high operation efficiency, PF can not adjust to the changeful order harmonics and the filtering effect is easy to be influenced by the power system reactance. Sometimes the series and shunt syntony with main system would enlarge harmonics and make things worse.Active Power Filter (APF), as another kind of filter equipment, begin to make use following the advancement of GTR, GTO, IGBT and etc. The unique advantage of this new setting is dynamic harmonics canceling. Now, the shunt APF is the most widely used one.In this paper, based on a new type of parallel hybrid APF, some key technologies during the design and applications are mainly researched. The following items are included:1. The research status of APF, its history and developing future are summarized.2. The operation principles and basic configurations of all kinds of APF are investigated and compared here.3. This paper shows a new hybrid filter topology, which suits the application of large capacity project especially. At the same time, a parameter design method is discussed.4. By contrasting, a modified method of measuring harmonic is introduced. Matlab simulation affirms its veracity.5. A new dead-time compensation method based on improved regulation sampling measure is put forward.
