China is quickening its step into an old-age society, and as a result, one of the problems China will have to solve is how to better realize the way of providing for the aged by family support. The method of mutual-support is an important way to solve the problem of providing for the aged, especially in the cases of people of low-income . But it is not popularized for some reasons. With such a background, our research aims at, via information technology, solving some of the problems in the method of mutual-support, thus promoting its development. The paper, first of all, studies the method of mutual-support, analyzing the deficiencies of the traditional free mutual-support method. Then we suggest the paid mutual-support method as an effective means to solve the way of providing for the aged by family support. And we further study the existing problems with the paid method, concentrating on the necessity and feasibility of the application of information technology to provide solutions to these problems. At present, there is not much research in the field of paid mutual-support for the aged. Based upon the analysis on the shortcomings of some of the operation systems both domestic and abroad, we bring forward the suggestion of the construction of an overall system for paid mutual-support management—a time bank, to solve the problems occurred in the working of the paid method.
