Digitized multimedia data facilitates the storage, processing and distribution of multimedia information and enhances the efficiency and accuracy of information presentation. But the unauthorized redistribution and copy of multimedia data without loss of fidelity is very easy. So intellectual property protection is one of the most pressing concerns for content creators and owners who distribute and deliver their content. Digital watermarking, which originates from steganography, provides a novel way for the protection of intellectual property rights, and becomes a hot spot in the research field of multimedia data security in recent years.In this paper, more analysis and research was given to the robustness and appll ;ation of digital image watermarking technology. Primary work includes following four aspects:1. Some basic knowledge of digital watermarking is detailedly introduced and summarized, including its background, status in quo, general system structure, basic principle, properties, and key technologies, and so on.2. The main fields of application of digital image watermarking technology is presented. And on this basis, the important applications of digital image watermarking to electronic commerce especially to the electronic business system and to the electronic government affair system especially to the digital-seal-for-word system are introduced in detail.3. Digital watermarking technology relates to several subjects and domains, so it is hard to realize a digital watermarking application system with only one program language. To solve this problem and advance the development of the application of digital watermarking ulteriorly, a method used to realize a digital image watermarking application system is brought forward, which is by dint of the mixed-program of Matlab and VC++. Experiment proves that this method shortens the cycle of development of software and enhances the performance of the software at the same time.4. Robustness is an important property that is used to evaluate the algorithm of digital watermarking. So, in this paper, the robustness of digital image watermarking is analyzed roundly, which includes the definition of robustness, the factors that influence robustness, routine signal process and baleful attacks, the method ,the process and the tools that are used to evaluate the robustness. Finally, an algorithm used to rudely evaluate the robustness of digital image watermarking is brought forward, which is based on the spread spectrum communication theory. This algorithm is able to evaluate the robustness of an algorithm quantificationally and is an necessary complementarity to the existing evaluation method that is based on the attack to watermarking algorithm.
