Quartz crystal oscillator is generally used as accurate clock source in many analog and digital circuits. Its quality directly affects the performance of the electronic system. So the accurate measurement of its characteristics and parameters is needed. In the paper, the hardware structure of a crystal measurement card based on DSP and DDS is introduced. The design of the PCI interface and the software of the card is mainly discussed。 The module and system adjustment is also introduced in the paper. The card is based on the Standard IEC 444. It is composed of six parts: PCI Bus interface module, signal generator, signal adjustor, gain and phase detector, A/D conversion module and control and data process module. The system can measure the gain and phase curves of the crystal with the frequency range from 1MHz to 150 MHz. Crystal parameters can also be calculated, such as resonant frequency, series resistance, shunt capacitance, motion capacitance, motion inductance and Q factor, etc. The PCI-DSP bridge chip, PCI2040, is used in the PCI interface, which is connected with the HPI port of DSP, while the software, Windriver, is used in developing drive program of the PCI interface. The software of the card consists of DSP controlling program for hardware modules based on TMS320VC5416, measurement data processing program, calculating program for crystal equivalent parameters, and PC program.
