Computer aided design (CAD) technology has been entered into every phase in the process of industrial product design, and this brought great changes to traditional design method. Broadly used in chemistry, petrochemistry and other industries as an important equipment, heat exchanger have received great attention on their research and development. The combination of CAD and heat exchanger' design will increase the quality and efficiency of design and shorten the developing cycle of new manufactures. But result from the considerable specialty of CAD software development, the existed chemical equipment CAD software falls behind computer application technology. There is a series of problems in the development, maintenance, extension and upgrade of the CAD software. So, it has great values to research and develop a practical CAD software used in heat exchanger design.Using unified modeling language (UML) and object-oriented technology in the present study, the author studies the requirement analysis, system analysis and system design on heat exchanger CAD (HECAD) system, and establishes use case models, class models and dynamic models. The author studies and solves many problems encountered in the development of HECAD system, and buildes many open independent shared databases on material capability, standard parts and materials. On this basis, the author develops the parts system have the advantage of code high reusing, easily being understood, maintained, changed and expanded using Visual C++6.0 on the platform of Windows2000, develops system interface being WinXP style, easily being used, simple, beautiful and friendly, and finishes system realization. It is a new breakthrough that UML applies in the development of chemical equipment CAD software.Using the parameterized technology and ObjectARX secondary development tools, the author built the assembly drawing and parts drawing database, and designed an algorithm to clean covered lines of the assembly drawing. Using the design calculation of heat exchanger based on the TEMA standard in USA, HECAD system, improved by the author, has big power in structure design, calculation checking, document compiling and can automatically generate assembly drawing. It can simplify the designer's work and increase the efficiency of heat exchanger design using this HECAD system.
