There are different ways to develop a solid modeling system, we can do application development on CAD system which supports script language, and we can also develop on platform such as ACIS, CAS.CADE and PARASOLID, furthermore, we can develop a system with solid model. However, application development aims to simplify the modeling process of complicated solids, and software developed on other platform must pay fees to the vendor.Pen interaction is a conceptual interaction means, which is different from traditional human-computer interaction. Generally speaking, traditional interaction needs many parameters manually input by users, which aims for precise modeling, so as to provide low conceptual design capability; meanwhile, pen interaction needs only some simple operations such as push, move, etc, so users can achieve a solid by several sketches.Under this background, we study solid modeling based on pen interaction. Firstly, we summarize research works on conceptual design; then we study pen interaction and the inadequateness occurred during interaction process and its deletion techniques; After that, we study systematically the reasoning mechanics of interaction in conceptual design system, by inference, we can position 2D point, edge and face on 3D space; In the topology transforming mechanics aspect, we offer new algorithms different from Euler Operations; in the rendering aspect, we summarize many methods to render the solid model. Lastly, we design a solid modeling system called Epure based on above research work, it use Half Edge as its fundamental model structure. Epure is designed from modules with object-oriented methods, so very extensible. Based on Epure, we study the topology transform algorithm complexity with Half Edge's actual presentation, meanwhile we find out a natural method presenting freeform curves, and we design a set of gestures to accelerate modeling process.
