It is the demanding of exploiting the ocean that propels the development of underwater acoustic technology. The progress of the underwater acoustic telemetry began earlier comparatively. Therefore, lots of algorithms are available. However, the underwater acoustic communications have begun since decades ago, which mainly implanted from wireless communications. That is feasible apparently. Though as it is, the gap between two kinds of communication is substantial. The reverberation and the Doppler-spread are two main prominent characteristics of the underwater acoustic channels for communication. In the result of that, the exploitation of underwater acoustic communications must be attained in view of the characteristics of their own.There parts consist of the working presented in the paper. A type of signal modulation is to be determined first. Second, the whole system will be designed, including transmitter and receiver, for implementation. Last, the receiver system ought to be materialized in real-time.On the general hardware platform, the software algorithms are flexible indeed. Variant modulations can be switched freely. More important, software algorithms may result in powerful signal processing tools, through which performance of the processing is enhanced.In character 3, the conception of the structure is depicted. By means of that, the whole system is erected directly. In the following character, the structure of the receiver is explained in theory. But this character doesn't stop here, because a specification is not the aim of the paper. It is well known that the communication system should be built step by step. In the paper, this work is achieved through two ways. On one hand, the base of the system is constructed by the method of math. In this sense, the system can be viewed as a unity. On the other hand, for the formation of the system, we have to compare different algorithms and evaluate the performance of them. Only in this way, it can be found that the structure of the algorithms in the paper is derived not from the imagination but form the communication theory and engineering practice.Under the concept of software radio described in the paper, the FSK modulation has enormous potential, combined with other communication algorithms. Furthermore, FSK is so robust that it is always paid attention to by the researchers of the underwater acoustic communications.
