21st century is the time for knowledge and economy, which makes digitalization become one of its characters. The project of "Digital Qingjiang" is brought forward to adapt the requirement of information age, which can accelerate enterprise's digitalization and service for drainage area's exploitation. Qingjiang flood control simulation and cascade hydropower dispatch system is the subsystem of "Digital Qingjiang" project. As an analyzing and simulating system, it can realize drainage area GIS, three-dimensional visualization simulation, attribute database and spatial database management, situation of river analysis and cascaded hydropower plants dispatching. In this system, database is the pivotal center to manage and dispatch the whole system, which affects the function and implement of the whole system. The theories and methods about how to build and manage the database have been researched and discussed in this paper, which mainly involves the following parts:(1)The function and hardware configuration of Qingjiang flood control simulation and cascade hydropower dispatch system are analyzed. On this basis, database's design plan is brought forward. it mainly comprises DBMS's choosing and system's configuration.(2)Database's basic knowledge, especially on function dependence, database's standard theory, practical design and non-standard adjusting are presented.(3)According to database's design procession, detailed design process of the system's database is introduced, especially about the adjusting of database's configuration from the view of the system's application during logic designing process. How to optimize the system to improve its efficiency is discussed too.(4)BLOB is applied to load image to assure data's integrity, consistency and security. Direct and indirect data exchanging are put forward to exchange data between outer and inner database. A middle database is created to help data exchange.(5)The way to realize database's application with VC++, ADO(ActiveX Data Objects)is discussed in this paper, On this basis, a practical application of this system is researched and has been implemented in Digital Qingjiang.
