So with the development of the Chinese Traditional Medicine granule, our Intelligent Dispensing System for Chinese Medicine was designed. This system contains the storing and dispensing of the medicine as a whole. This system also can take out the medicine granule automatically, precisely and quickly. And the patient can take medicine conveniently only with a cup of water.The main work of this article is focused on: 1. The design of totally solution of the Intelligent Dispensing System whichincluding both software and hardware.2. The design of controller program for the PLC to control all the motors. When running this program, the whole flow to dispensing the medicine could be accomplished.3. The design of communication program from the PC to PLC. This program takes charge of the conversing of the data from the prescription in the PC and transmitting them to the PLC.4. The design of the optimizing arithmetic for the manipulator to dispensing the medicine. When there are too much kinds of medicine in one prescription, it could choose the best path to go in the limited time.The second generation of the Intelligent Dispensing System for Chinese Medicine has been designed now. The total solution and both the control program and communication program are all running well in the system. The optimizing arithmetic for the dispensing path was tested in the PC.
