| Video-On-Demand(VOD) is a kind of new technology of network multimedia, which can content with the different requirements of users. In the large sports game, VOD system can provide people better quality of service, because it makes up the shortage of traditional television and recorder.In the traditional VOD system, users only can watch program when the program is transmitted completely. In this thesis, the program is divided based on time, and all the segments are made up of streaming. The technology of streaming can enhance the performance of VOD system. User can watch television and receive residual data at the same time, so it can reduce the latency time.In the large sports game, there are many programs. In this thesis, the standard of MPEG-4 is used for data compression. The standard of MPEG-4 not only can reduce the redundant data, but also it can offer clear image. This thesis uses DirectDraw and DirectSound for playing back.The traditional VOD system wastes the resource of network because of unicast. Every data package only can satisfy one user, and the same data must be copied if several users require the same program. The technology of multicast can make up the shortage of unicast because one package can satisfy much more users at one time, and it can save a lot of resource of network. In the large sports game, some programs are required by lots of people, other programs are required by few people, so the technology of multicast can enhance the performance of system.This thesis presents a VOD system based on the technologies of streaming and multicast. The system uses the technology of multicast to transmit the programs required by lots of people, and it uses the technology of unicast to transmit the programs required by few people, so the system can satisfy much more people synchronously. The system also can satisfy the different requirement of coaches, athletes and audiences, because of supporting VCR(Video Cassette Recorder).
