DSP (Digital Signal Processor) is a kind of Microprocessor that can be used in real-time signal processor. It can realize all kinds of signal process arithmetic in high-speed and real-time.The demand of detecting target that buried under the ground and maintenance of infrastructure increased rapidly in our country .This situation has generated the need for more efficient and expedient ways to identify and evaluate the condition under the ground. In this paper, we do a lot of research on ground-penetrating radar system based on DSP in lab, and got good evaluation result. That confirms that DSP can acquire and process radar signal in high-speed and real-time.The system includes three parts: transmitting&receiving module, data collection module and signal processing module.We design and adjust transmitting module in hardware to improve the power of this part. Thus we get more useful and more powerful signal to be processed.In this paper we use DSP in data collection module instead of MCU to control the system.TMS320VC5416 is a kind of fixed-point DSP chip that based on an advanced modified Harvard architecture.That makes it has more ability in real-time digital signal processing than MCU. We control the data collection of the system in CCS(Code Composer Studio) and transmit them to PC for further process through USB.There are many methods in processing of radar signal. We use wavelet packet arithmetic, which was widely used in noise- reduce and compression of image, to process the data that collected. The way of submitting frequency characteristics based on wavelet packet can divide the different frequency bands, and then submit he energy characteristics. We set the energy characteristics to moment and auto-adjusting BP neural network to be classified, and thus we can know whether there is a metal target buried under the ground.
