The paper is supported by fund project of national natural science — The technology of uncalibrated adaptive euclidean 3D reconstruction using a single 2D image and its application.The initiative machine vision technology used in 3D shape measurement developed rapidly in recent years. Projection lighting system can be divided into three shape: point, line, plane structure light. First two kinds of structure light must use the way of scanning to realize 3D outline measurement, but its systematic structure is complicated and the speed is relatively slow. So the plane structure light is adopted. A pattern with multicolor codes and a projector constitute a new projection system through which the pattern of multicolor codes is illuminated by the lighting system and projected onto the 3D scene. The function of the system is to characterize the 3D scene and provide conditions for 3D scene reconstruction.The emphasis of this paper is lens design and optimization. To verify the quality of the image of multicolor codes, a set of experimental system is needed to pickup the coordinates of the interest points of the image and a mathematic method is adopted for the coordinates transformation. Through setting up the experimental platform, the performance of the system is evaluated from experimental result and error factors are analyzed.In the process of characterizing the 3D scene, the image error of the pattern of multicolor codes will greatly influence the precision of the 3D reconstruction. Taking this factor into account, a method of making multicolor codes board is presented and a new projection system is designed. Through experimental contrasting, the reliability and capability of the method are validated, thus an optimized projection system is obtained.
