An ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes dynamically forming a temporary network without the use of any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. Mobile nodes in ad hoc network communicate with each other using multi-hop wireless links.Node positioning is a fundamental and crucial issue for ad-hoc netwrk operation, management and application. In this paper, we classify and analyse the localization techniques that have been presented in ad-hoc networks, and find out their advantages and drawbacks. We propose a self-adaptive localization method in ad-hoc networks. It is fit for intelligent traffic positioning system (ITPS) that based on ad-hoc network. It adjust the positioning parameters self-adaptively according to QoS and dynamical topology. The simulation results show that the method we presented exhibits higher localization extent, accuracy and applicability.
