According to special requirement of Stream media Storage system, studied how to improve read performance and realized improved file system and RAID5 arithmetic, gived realization scheme on embedded Linux.As we know, RAID card on show didn't optimize for stream media application. According to speciality of stream media storage system, we can find most of requests are read and single request block is larger then others application, RAID card on show can only suport 4K block request, so it is not suit for stream application, otherwise, in order to get the best performance, the data layout in disk must be sequential access. So we can design high performance RAID card for stream media oriented storage system.Stream media oriented storage systems will include subsystems as follow: file system, PCI device driver, RAID arithmetic, SCSI device driver and operation management system. These subsystems will distrubute in two hardware platforms: server platform and embeded system platform. Operation in server will be Linux2.4.18, Montavista Linux2.1 in embedded system. All subsystem will be a kernal driver. In order to process mass block request, Stream media Storage system have realized a new filesystem and RAID5 arithmetic, and can process 64K data block, this can improve performance of storage system greatly.We have take a full test for Stream media oriented storage system, test environment is double channel Ultra160SCSI card, the system can reach 300MB/S read request on RAID5 and 70MB/S write request, this conclusion match case of expect.
