HLA is a newest common integrated architecture proposed by the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office (DMSO) in the field of Advanced Distributed Simulation (ADS). Using HLA the system is analyzed by the methodology of oriented object and different-levels object models are built to promote reusability of simulation systems and simulation components. Moreover the application system is plug and play and the new simulation system is easy to integrated and managed. And in order to meet the needs of the users and reach diverse goals HLA ensure the interoperability and reusability in the federation by means of realizing quick flexible integration and reconfiguration of federates. With the increasingly wide employments of HLA-based applications in the military fields such as simulations of new weapons and battles, data collection also plays a very important role in the systems. But most of simulation systems including some current systems are using DIS protocol before using HLA. The ways of recording datum in old simulation framework including DIS have not been fit for the characteristics of simulation systems with HLA specially the requirements of data collection in WAN. So with the commercialization and utilization of HLA, solving the data collection problem based HLA has a universal significance which is also the emphasis of this thesis. First, this thesis expatiates on its background, purposes, significance and generalizes the process of HLA and the actual state of applications, provides the structure of the thesis. Secondly, it introduces some basic conceptions and discusses some essential knowledge related to data collection such as RTI, the life-cycle in the federation execution, declaration management and object management. Thirdly, it discusses the object, purpose, basic requirements of data collection with HLA. Then to solve the key issues of data collection it proposes new requirements of data collection by the way of analyzing the composition, advantages and shortcomings of the solutions of data collection in common use. Finally, it presents a non-intrusive distributed solution which consists of data logger interface, data logger agent, data logger master to collect exercise information based on HLA simulation using WAN connections to solve WAN traffic and changes to the simulator application and overcome the shortcomings of the solutions which used to be adopted. And it illustrates the advantage of the distributed data collection in WAN based on the comparison of two experiments.
