There are mainly two part of work during the author's master thesis program. One is the research of H.264 video coding standard and the realization of H.264 decoder based on DSP, the other is the reseach work on error concealment.H.264/AVC, as the latest video coding standard, is proposed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group. The purpose of the H.264/AVC standardization is to enhance compression performance and provide a "network-friendly" video representation for "conversational" (video telephony) and "non-conversational" (storage, broadcast, or streaming) applications.H.264/AVC represents a number of advances in video coding technology, in terms of both coding efficiency and flexibility for effective use over a broad variety of networks and application domains. This new features provide approximate 50% bit rate saving with equivalent perceptual quality relative to the performance of prior standards. The development of video coding standard results in the development of industry area, which is committing itself to realizing the video encoder and decoder terminal. For this reason, we have a close research of H.264 video coding standard, and realize a H.264 decoder based on TI C64 serial DSP.Another work is the research work on error concealment. In this paper, a novel error concealment algorithm is proposed, which uses sub-block in place of the macroblock as the error concealment unit and exploits the boundary matching algorithm to search the best-matched block to reconstruct the erroneous block. This concealment algorithm makes use of many new features of H.264 and the temporal correlation of video signal, improving the reconstruct quality of erroneous video signal.
