The data mining of research has passed through ten years of development. The early research into the algorithm of data mining, has provided the data mining technique with numerous algorithms. These algorithms with different characteristics cover a large range of the domain such as the database, the statistics, the artificial intelligence and the machine intelligence etc. Although in recent years, data mining researches for the algorithm are no longer the focus of attention, data mining has permeated among different domains with abundant and flexible analysis abilities and functions, turning gradually to the application research with its own specific style in the field of application. Researches on the hydrological data mining is late and is not enough, and few of analyses and solves on the data mining, in especially adequately minines the information and knowledge from the national hydrologic basic data base.Searching for the hydrologic similar year is difficult in the hydrology domain. The problem is significative of analyses the recurence, analyses the frequency, forecasts the hydrology and evaluates the disaster in the hydrological area. The text analyses the hydrologic data of similar, and confirm the method of the hydrologic similar year, to use the cluster analysis for the condensation algorithm of the hierarchical cluster.The research investigation in the hydrology data mining consists of six procedures: object understanding, data preparation, data pretreatment, model creation, valuation and interpretation, and knowledge application. The adoption of public data processing software and the algorithm mining software has succeeded in connecting each software with the data, forming the loose coupling system of the hydrologic data mining.In the whole procedure of the hydrologic data mining, the data mining of data processing mode is applied to the hydrology domain, as well as adopting some of the data processing techniques in the hydrology domain, resulting in the combination of the data mining domain with the profession domain.The application research is based on the hydrologic data of two different representative regions from the national hydrologic basic data base in Jiangsu Province with a strict control according to the data mining processes, starting from the search of the hydrologic similar year, and thus the data mining research in the hydrology domain is carried out. After a all-direction analysis and comparison of the hydrologic similar year, with the method of the data mining, and the cluster analysis for the condensation algorithm of the hierarchical cluster, the discovery of the result agrees with the hydrology domain expert knowledge.
