Abstract:The TCP/IP started in the late of 1960s as a government-financed research project, in the 1990s it turned into the most widely used form of networking between computers. Routing is one of the most important functions of IP. The routing done by IP is a routing mechanism, when it searches the routing table and decides which interface to send the packet out. There are three kinds of IP routing-static routing, dynamic routing and default routing. In this paper, I will focus my mind on dynamic routing protocols. There are two categories of dynamic routing protocols, Interior Gateway Protocol and Exterior Gateway Protocol. Interior routing occurs within an autonomous system. Most common routing protocols, such as RIP and OSPF, are interior routing protocols. Exterior routing occurs between autonomous systems, While there may be many different interior routing protocols, a single exterior routing system manages the global. Internet is based primarily on the BGP-4 exterior routing protocol. The main contribution of this paper are:? Introduce Internet history and Internet tomorrow;? Compare OSI Network Model and TCP/IP Model;? Discuss the theory of IP routing;? Analyze and compare some routing protocols, such as RIP, OSPF and BGP;? Use OPNET to run simulation;? Confirm the conditions that RIP and OSPF work best.
