Since 90th years the technology of micro-electronics, computer science and the technology of communication has kept on developing at very fast speed. Now, human beings are stepping into the age of information. Image is utilized widely as the carrier of information. As a result, the technology of Image processing and transmission is needed urgently more and more. This paper discussed the technology of grabbing, compression and storage of the static image. Then the MCU deliver the compressed data to the computer to complete the subsequence process.The system consists of three parts: image grabbing, compression and storage, transmission. With the manufacture techniques of CMOS image sensor being improved, CMOS image sensor is taking more and more quotient in the market. It even seems to have a trend to replace the traditional CCD image sensor. So the system completes Image collection by the CMOS image sensor. COMS image sensor can directly export digital image according with the standard of CCIR601, and perform through the JPEG compression processing chip. Image compression accord with JPEG standard and perform by an integrated JPEG codec ZR36060, which supports completely baseline method defined by JPEG standard. Though the size of a compressed image is not very large, but the compression speed is high. So we can adopt high speed buffer RAM to save the compressed data. Image transmission is controlled under the MCU and the compressed data is delivered to PC through RS-232 interface. Then the PC completes the subsequence processing. The MCU is the core of the system. It controls grabbing image through CMOS image sensor, image data storage and sending it out. The exterior controlling logic is offered by ALTERA EPM7128.
