Human-computer interface is developing along the direction of natural, intelligent and integration .Pen-based User Interface (PUI) is an important means for capture thinking, recording events and exchanging information. Because of the ambiguity of PUI and requirement of Ubiquitous Computing, the structure analysis and intelligent editing of handwriting is becoming more and more attractive. It is the requirement of application such as PDA and whiteboard, and is also the necessary requirement of further development of human-computer interface design theory.In this paper, sticking to the user-centered, natural and implicit design thinking, the method of structure analysis for ink, we proposed new thinking and technology method of intelligent handwriting editing based-on structure understand. This dissertation system;itically describes the author's work on theory, techniques implementation of prototype system. The major work including four aspects as follows:1. Preprocessing of StrokeThe author focuses on noise reduction of handwriting. The stroke preprocessing of removes redundant points, accelerates the speed of drawing of handwriting and makes advances in recognition. The work is the foundation of manipulating stroke further.2. Structure Understanding of HandwritingThere is implicit structure in digital ink, so we use the method of structure analysis for ink. It is hard to be perfectly extracted due to ink's intrinsic informality, hi perceptually supported ink editors, implicit structure is an important hierarchy involving understanding and manipulation. We use the two classification of the histogram for structure understanding of character. The interval of the characters is the data of the histogram. In this paper, we use histogram projection to get the potential lines. We use decision tree and multi step method to get the structure understanding of paragraph. We get the different levels of the handwriting to form the implicit structure, which makes the seeming disorder information to have the operational tree-structure.3. Intelligent Editing Based-On Structure Understanding of HandwritingThe user can operate the handwriting based on structure understanding of Handwriting ,such as rotating, moving, deleting, inserting, merging, splitting handwriting .In order to meet the needs of the user, the system make use of direct manipulation and gesture to edit handwriting. The operation has automaticproperties .The relevance of handwriting is adjusted by the computer, which liberate the user to maintain the relate structure of the handwriting, which reduces the cognition burden of the user. So it is intelligent editing based-on structure understanding of handwriting.4. Classification of Single WordWe input separate word of strokes and output the classification of character of strokes: Chinese character, letter, umber and punctuation. We use the nearest decision method to recognize the character, which can improve the ratio of recognition.
