As one of the advanced and active productivities, information technology has become the basis of social economy. Management information system (MIS) is an important platform for enterprise to implement informational construction, so it must provide the ability to adapt to the dynamic exchanges. To the shortages of MIS, on the base of the workflow and web service technologies, we propose the process-oriented MIS, which is advanced in loose-couple, flexibility, high integration, etc. The main topic of this paper is about the architecture of MIS, framework model and the design of the visual modeling tool. Firstly, the paper introduces the workflow technology. According to the workflow criterion proposed by WFMC, the paper describes the contents of the workflow management system, including the reference model of workflow and system framework, etc. The workflow model and modeling method is one core of the workflow technology, after analyzing several modeling methods, the paper mainly discusses the modeling method based on the directed diagram. Secondly, the paper describes the web service technology. In term of the computer mode and correlative technology, the paper puts up discussion. On the base of above, we propose the framework model of the process-oriented MIS, which makes full use of the advantages about workflow and web service. The architecture of objected-process MIS has four tiers, including view tier, workflow tier, function service tier and database tier. As for these tiers, workflow tier is the core, and function service is the principal part. The framework model specifies and extends the architecture, and it detailedly describes the composition of components in tiers and the communication mechanism of components between tiers. The principle of the model is this: To use the workflow perfects the flexibility, and to use the web service improves the ability to adapting the distributed application in the web. Lastly, on the base of the new MIS framework, we design the visual modeling tool, which uses the directed diagram theory as modeling method and makes the XPDL based on XML as the model definition language. Because of the advantages of the XML, this modeling tool can provide the easily understood model description.
