Wireless network provide an agile and convenient way for communication. It is changing the teaching and learning pattern of the traditional network education. Wireless education is the trend of the modern education. But in the wireless network, the low bandwidth of the wireless link limits the multimedia application, because video and audio application require high bandwidth for quality guarantee. Multicast could prove to be an efficient way of providing necessary services for these kinds of application, so it is a good solution to use multicast in the wireless education. One of this paper's purposes is to provide a multicast solution in the wireless network education. In this paper, we first introduce how to optimize the wireless classroom with network simulation and measurement experiment, and then describe our multimedia education system. The application of multicast in this system shows that it is efficient to utilize network resource. We also propose a wireless multicast network architecture combined with IP multicast and application layer multicast. This proposed architecture could support the multicast application throughout the campus network in which the routers don't provide multicast routing. We investigate the reliability issues of the 802.11 MAC multicast/broadcast in this paper. Then we propose a scheme, which can improve the multicast/broadcast reliability in the infrastructure network and another highly reliable scheme, which can improve the multicast/broadcast reliability in the Ad Hoc network. Simulation experiments show that these schemes are efficient to improve the performance of multicast/broadcast in wireless network.
