VR is regarded as one of the technologies which can bring great impact to the world in the 21st Century. It has shown great charm in many fields, such as education, engineering, medicine and recreation. This paper particularly emphasizes on engineering from the viewpoint of stereoscopy, interaction and constraints and creates VARE(Virtual Assembly Recreational Environment) based on the research mentioned above. Moreover, the paper aims at the current VR development tools and VARE lack of dynamic factor and addresses the emergency of the incorporation of modeling and simulation tools from the field of physical based simulation into virtual reality to build authentic virtual environment, then introduces the attempt in this field.At first, the paper explains the problems of "what ;s VR and what VR can do" and introduces the concept and characters of VR ,then compares it with similar technology, such as computer simulation etc. At last, it shows the application of VR in several fields, such as education and ergonomics.On stereoscopy, the paper resolves the problem of stereoscopy in VR application. From theory to practice, the paper discusses stereoscopic organization of physical and computer rendering, introduces familiar stereoscopic system, especially dual channel system. From the viewpoint of visual physiology ^ visual geometry and psychology, analyzes the factor of stereoscopic effect and corresponding measures. At the last, the paper realizes the stereoscopic output on the platform of WTK> OpenGL and 3Dmax.On interaction and constraints, the paper researches into navigation > selection/manipulation and system control in virtual environment, also the creation , identification and solution of constraints.Based on the research mentioned above, the author creates VARE(Virtual Assembly Recreational Environment), meanwhile, the paper introduces some details in the implementation of VARE, such as collision detection and system feedback..At last, the paper aims at the shortcomings of current VR development tools and VARE and addresses the emergency of the incorporation of modeling and simulation tools from physical based simulation into virtual reality to build authentic virtual environment, then introduces the attempt in this field using WorldToolKit and Vortex.
