This paper is intended for people who will design and manufacture integrated optical phase modulator used by fiber optic gyroscope (FOG). The objective is to give a working familiarity with both the theoretical and practical fabrication of the subject, especially branch waveguide. For this purpose, the paper has included some numerical analytics from numerical simulation.Therefore, the paper also covers the more practical aspects of implementation: how to represent practical problems in mathematical models, analyze performances as a function of model parameters, implement the electromagnetic equations in numerically algorithms by MATLAB and its toolkit. According to using MATLAB, the paper demonstrates the workings of basic theory and optimal design, so that the readers can better understand that whole developing procedure. In specially, response of FOG and one dimensional diffusion theory on annealed proton exchange are illuminated in some of the practical parameters of "real-world" problems.Chapter 1 informally introduces the general subject matters what are FOG and modulator through its history of developments and emerging features. Chapter 2 covers the basic theory and basic structure of FOG, as well as splitting ratio and non-reciprocity optical power influent on the detecting optical power.Chapter 3 covers the waveguide and electrodes of phase modulator design theatrically and optimally. At last, the designing parameters of phase modulator are given.Chapter 4 introduces the tool of partial difference equation of MATLAB, and applies it to resolve one dimension diffusion problem about proton exchange. Chapter 5 describes the whole procedure of fabrication device. Thus, it gives data and analysis of waveguide experiment that uses precise optical equipments and assistant software. Final chapter summarizes the whole paper on main domain of design.
