The Optical communication is striding forward to all-optical transmission, thanks to Er3+-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) that was first successfully developed in University of Southampton, UK, in 1986. In this dissertation, the principle of digital EDFA driver is studied theoretically. A prototype digital EDFA driver was designed and debugged in practice. And the following 5 devices of 3 generations ware designed base on the first prototype. Make it transforms from a lab prototype to a commercial model.We introduce mixed signal processor into the design of the circuit of digital EDFA driver.1. The mixed signal processor is introduced into the design of the circuit of digital EDFA driver with innovative. Software take place of hardware in many circumstance, it reduces the circuit complexity. The digital EDFA driver introduced in this dissertation was totally controlled by software; all the operations can be achieved by menu selection. The Driver is easy to operate and reduce the chance of accident operation.2. Different from the traditional EDFA control circuit with 5 feedback loops, we introduce a new system with 6 feedback loops. This model is used as guideline for the following design.3. The over sampling theory is studied in detail and put into practice. It can promote the resolution of analog to digital converter in quite high level and reduce the negative impact of circuit noise.4. Designed a prototype digital EDFA driver, An EDFA was constructed with a 980nm laser diode as the pump source in practice. A serial of tests and analysis are made in this platform. The driver id proved well-working and applicable.5. On the basis of the first prototype, We keep on improving the design and develop 3 generations of digital EDFA driver, and make great effort in industry design and reliability. Make the driver transforms from a lab prototype to a commercial model.
