The Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) is the realization of optical fiber communication indispensable important components, also prompted the critical components of optical communication industry rapid development. In recent years, Communications and information technology has been rapid development with the continuous development of communication service diversification, at the same time Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) features higher requirements are put forward. EDFA plays a very important role in DWDM (Dense where Division Multiplexing, DWDM) System, Cable TV Network (Community can Antenna Television be used, CATV) System. EDFA is applied to the signal network to no light-electric direct conversion process amplifier and EDFA has the following advantages:High gain; Broad band; Little noise factor; High power etc.This paper mainly aims at the optimization design of EDFA in the optical network, the concrete content is as follows:1. The paper analysis discussed the framework of EDFA in the optical network structure, group into structure, key technology, research status and development direction.2. The improved algorithm (PSO) modification the design of band, finally obtained the excellent flatness gain C band noise big gain (>25dB), low noise (<5dB) EDFA and L-band high gain (>25dB), low noise (<5dB) EDFA and S-band big gain (>10dB), low-noise (<5dB) improvement design of EDFA and structural parameters of EDFA solution is presented.3. The flat of the EDFA gain using two kinds of methods of current (improved design their own flat gain EDFA and the introduction of flat gain filtering EDFA) research present situation to give some introduction, and a brief introduction to the advantages and disadvantages of them.4.
