Currently, Bluetooth technology has evolved into one of the most important short range wireless communication technologies. Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) made up of Bluetooth has some characteristics of ad hoc wireless networks. WPAN may interconnect electronic devices conveniently. To make the communication smoothly, performance of wireless networks must be guaranteed. Therefore, the Intra-piconet polling schemes and Inter-piconet scheduling schemes are both of the challenge of Bluetooth in future. The thesis concentrates on the two problems with simulation of networks. This thesis summarizes a great variety of intra-piconet scheduling schemes and classifies them. In terms of NS2 and Bluehoc simulator, the simulations of several polling schemes are implemented. Then, several polling schemes including PRR, ERR, GRR and DRR are compared. After simulating, we get a result which to be used to conclude that DRR has an excellent performance compared to the others. Again, we put forwards the WDRR polling scheme on the basis of DRR. The final simulation result shows that WDRR optimizes the performance of a piconet. This thesis also lists the most popular scheduling schemes for Bluetooth scatternet. We give an overview of these schemes. Then, comparison of performance is proposed according to the characteristics of them. Finally, a simulation based on LCS which combines optimal intra-piconet polling and inter-piconet scheduling is implemented. We conclude from the simulation results that the optimal polling schemes may improve the performance of LCS.In the end, we conclude that the WDRR polling scheme can improve the performance of Bluetooth piconet and scatternet efficiently.
