With the rapid development of Internet, the problems of IPv4 are exposed. There are many disadvantages about IPv4. To resolve all kinds of existing problems of IPV4 thoroughly, IETF bring forward a new protocol for IP layer ——IPv6 .Several new characteristics show that IPv6, designed as a successor to IPv4, is the new version suit to the next internet generation :1,Expanded Addressing Number: IPv6 increases the IP address size from 32 bits to 128 bits, to support more levels of addressing hierarchy, a much greater number of addressable nodes, and simpler auto-configuration of addresses. a new type of address called an "anycast address" is defined, used to send a packet to any one of a group of nodes. And the scalability of multicast routing is improved by adding a "scope" field to multicast addresses.2,Simplification of Header Format: Some IPv4 header fields have been dropped or made optional, to reduce the common-case processing cost of packet handling and to limit the bandwidth cost of the IPv6 header.3,Improved Support for Extensions and Options:Changes in the way IP header options are encoded allows for more efficient forwarding, less stringent limits on the length of options, and greater flexibility for introducing new options in the future.Along with a great deal of internet application, the efficient internet management is impendency. The more complexity of all kinds of hardware products,operating system and application programs, the more difficulty management of internet. To improve the internet stability,application and to reduce network fault, network programmers design a series of advanced network management system by network management technology and it was great improved.network management is mainly included 5 function: fault management, configuration management,accounting management,performance management and security management. The network management protocol is the core of network management system, which is defined the way that network supervisors communicate with network agent. The well-known protocol is CMIP,SNMP. SNMP is used in this system, whose characteristics are: simpleness,easy realization,low development cost,flexibility(equipment which accord with internet standard is managed with SNMP ),extension(easy extend management capability by define new "managed object "),stability. This system is used the protocol: SNMPv2, the mainly reason is the improvement of communication capability between management information structure and manager and protocol manipulation. It mainly is:1,enhancing data definition language, improving the Structure for Management Information, extending object type macro. Intensifying object expression capability, extending data type.2,applying RMON rules, provide a perfect table operation function, support distributing network management.3,defining new MIB function group, increasing function for dealing with network fault, adding function for dealing with aggregation.4,producing two new PDU for protocol operation, which is used for communicating big data block among managers and communicating a great deal of data at the same time, so improving efficiency and capability.The realization is based on Red Hat Linux Advanced 2.0 OS, whose kernel source code is free and linux OS has stability, safety, high performance and price comparison and supports IPv6 stronger. Linux can manager IPv4/IPv6 dual protocol stack at the same time; Database is oracle9i, oracle9i OCI is a tool for application program, which provides a group of interface function of application program design. JSP server is 2.1.8, which is open,free and has good capability.According to the realization function, network management is divided into managed network equipment,network management server and client:1,Managed network equipment is reading and storing all kinds of data, corresponding to a server process to a SNMP request.
