Images are the most common and most important way of getting and representing remote sensing data. But we get more and more data, the capability of the transfers and storage of remote sensing images is becoming weak. The key problem of the transfers and storage of remote sensing images is that the huge digital images bring to transfers channels and limited bandwidth volume of storage medium. Although the technology is improving and the density of storage medium is improving, but the capability of collecting data is improving too, the new data are being generated every moment. Unless using wider bandwidth, more efficient system and bigger storage medium the problem will stand out. So the way and the platform of real-time data compression is an aspect of remote sensing system.Because the remote sensing applications demand time limitation of data, images compression system demands time limitation. Furthermore, the volume of remote sensing data is huge, images compression system demands more efficiency. So images compression system based on hardware comes to the front of us.In this paper, we represent a images compression system based on wavelet compression chip, introduce the design of its hardware and software, test its performance, and the results of testing images is approving. This system sets up an integrated remote sensing images compression platform, and we probe into lossy compression arithmetic to apply it to remote sensing images compression.
