With the continual advancement of computer and network technology, Distance Education gains fast development as well. The advantage of Distance Education, namely 4A, that is anyone can learn anything anywhere anytime makes more people have the chance to learn new knowledge. This article first analyses the current condition of the Network Learning Environment (NLE) and finds some deficiencies in the current NLE. The current NLE provides the same function to different subjects and students of different levels. The NLE's service (learning content, learning function component, learning tool) is defect in the subject characters and student preference. Adaptive learning function component and learning tool is not provided in current NLE. The development of the current NLE belongs to the repeated development from the draft, not development from the available component.To resolve the above problems, the author suggests a Component Based Adaptive Network Learning Environment (CBANLE) model. The model can be used to provide such adaptive services : (1) Constructing the NLE function component based on student model and subject model. (2) Adjusting the NLE based on student's learning status and feedback. (3) Recommending the learning tool based on learner s' practical learning. When students learn in the environment based on CBANLE model, they will feel that NLE is specially constructed for their learning courses. So the NLEenhances the adaptivity of the system in serving for students.The CBANLE model has four features:(1) Providing three adaptive services: adaptive NLE construction, adaptive NLE adjusting, adaptive learning tool recommendation. (2) Building student model and subject model in CBANLE model to realize the three adaptive services. In the research of student model we make a careful study from the individual-student model and student-group model. The individual-student model can make the user customize their NLE easily. Student-group model provides a good default NLE configuration for beginners and prefects and avoids the same mistake that other students made before. (3) The component technology is applied to the construction of CBANLE model to realize the open architecture. (4) The AGENT technology is applied to the construction of CBANLE model to increase intelligence and provide adaptive service.In the experiment of the CBANLE model, we construct an experimental system with CBSD and AGENT technology based on this model. We embed the experimental system the NLE of Network Education College of Southwest Normal University and get a good result.
