In the photoelasticity experiments, we usually can get two kinds of fringes: isochromatics and isolinics. They reprehensively reflect the distinction value and the direction of the main stresses. In the traditional photoelasticity experiment, isochromatics and isolinics were captured by hand-drawing and taking pictures method. With the rapid development of computer and transacting images technology, more attention are placed on the research of application the digital  image technique for improving the precision and efficiency of test. And people in fact gain great improvement in this field.  Wavelet transform is a new method in the field of digital image technique. Its most advantage is that can analyze the signal in the time and frequency field which make it a center of attraction in the various fields of engineering. It also can automatically eliminate noises in the dealing process. The main work in this thesis is appling wavelet transform method into digital photoelasticity, analyzing and discussing the results. The concrete wok in this thesis: 1. Simulation the ideal images in the photoelasticity.   2. Testifying the feasibility of wavelet transform automated identifying photoelastic images.                     3. Comparison the precision among different wavelets in dealing with the same images, and discussion the effects of different numbers of images and different orders in the same wavelet transform.. 4. Capturing photoelastic experimental images and application the wavelet transform method, analyzing the results.
