Automobile becomes more necessary in people's life with the development of society. This makes problems of traffic and environment increasingly worse. Intelligent traffic system is capable to solve these problems. Combinatorial navigation is the development trend of vehicle navigation. Vehicle navigation system is a basic and important part of the intelligent traffic system. Vehicle navigation system can use the road facility in existence to improve the traffic jam efficiently, and make it easy to manage and dispatch traffics. Several combinatorial navigation systems are discussed and compared in the paper. GPS/ELECTRICAL MAP combinatorial navigation system is selected to complete the design at last. The aim of the design is to design a low cost,high practicability vehicle navigation system.In this paper, four main problems are discussed. They are coordinate transform, the make and management of electronic map, map matching and best path analysis.Combinatorial navigation system analysis is discussed in the paper with the example of a electronic map based on TAIYUAN CITY. The data used in the system is gathered by a GPS receiver. These data are disposed to be the basic data of electric map. The theory and method of arithmetic of map matching are discussed in the paper. A method based on map matching arithmetic which includes muzzy logic arithmetic can emendate error of GPS localization. This method is introduced in the paper. At the last part of the paper, arithmetic of choosing nearest location based on map is introduced.
