Popular video DSP systems in today's market cannot process data both flexibly and at real time. Therefore, this paper proposes a real time video DSP platform design scheme based on FPGA and PCI bus, and introduces the method to construct high-speed data transmission interface with PLX PCI9054.Making use of the powerful capabilities of the PCI chip, high-speed data of the DSP platform are transferred both ways at DMA mode, and low speed data such as initialization and configuration information are transferred at Direct Slave mode. This paper shows in detail the workings of PCI9054, the configuration of its control register, and the writing of platform driver with API functions provided by the manufacturer.This paper also introduces some experience concerning the hardware realization of the DSP platform and the design of PCB. With the flexibility of FPGA, image-processing function can be added to the platform, which is quite useful to schools and research organizations frequently engaged in special image processions.
