Data transmission in wireless channels with high speed and reliability is required in future wireless systems. OFDM, with the advantage of high spectrum efficiency and easy realization, can strongly combat multi-path and dispersive channel interference, so its application is remarkable in recent years. However, it also has two main disadvantages, i.e., high sensitivity to nonlinear problems and synchronization errors. Thus the research of OFDM mainly addresses this issue with how to overcome them.This paper firstly introduces the basic principle and characteristics of OFDM, as well as the multi-path channel model and so on, then analyses OFDM system architecture. Key technologies such as synchronization and PAPR of the signal with emphasis on the latter are analyzed. Several methods of reducing the PAPR is presented and analyzed and a novel method is presented. Finally, an OFDM modulator is achieved on DSP system.
